THE POWER OF ONE CAN IMPACT THE LIVES OF MANY.

The simple but compelling sentiment embodies the mission of Project One, a nonprofit dedicated to providing financial and mentoring support to college-bound students from single parent households in Mecklenburg County. Although a college education is one of the key differences in breaking the cycle of poverty, it has become increasingly difficult to afford.

Project One is more than just a scholarship fund. It is our goal to provide students with a solid foundation that includes a college education, financial literacy, and an understanding of each student’s gifts and talents as they begin to make their mark in the world. Students have support throughout college from a Project One mentor.

MEET THE SCHOLARS

Project One scholars are bright, motivated and determined. They’re hard working, intelligent and focused. They’ve made it to the top of their high school class through sheer force of will: holding a job, participating in extracurriculars and defying expectations. Often they’re the first in their families to attend college, seizing the opportunity to use education to break the cycle of poverty.

GET INVOLVED

A Project One mentor puts it best: “When I was first out of college, I didn’t have money to give. But I had time.” Mentors provide encouragement during the scholars’ college career. We want scholars to feel supported and have someone who’s been through the college experience themselves providing them with sound advice.
